I seem to keep planting new ones.
I’m Eileen Colette—an author, gardener, nurse, songwriter, wife, mother, observer, and lifelong student of what helps people grow.
RootsOMG is where those parts of my life come together.
It started with a garden. It didn’t stay there.
RootsOMG means Roots Of My Garden.
The name started with actual soil, seeds, plants, garden classes, experiments, failures, harvests, and a growing realization that the garden was teaching me about far more than gardening.
Plants require patience. So do people.
Some things need pruning. Some things need rest. Some seasons look unproductive even while important work is happening below the surface.
In my garden classes, I teach that impatience can be one of the biggest threats to a successful garden. Over time, I realized the same lesson kept showing up in life.
Before long, those lessons started finding their way into my writing, my music, my nursing, my faith, and eventually my first book.
RootsOMG became less about my garden and more about everything we’re growing while we’re here.
The different parts of me have never really been separate.
Gardener
The garden was one of my first classrooms.
I grow food, flowers, ideas, and occasionally things I had absolutely no intention of growing. Through garden classes, Grow Parties, experiments, and everyday observation, I’ve learned that plants have a funny way of exposing truths about patience, preparation, timing, and ourselves.

Eventually, some of those observations needed more room than a garden bed could give them.
Writing became another way to explore the things I care about: survival, grief, humor, faith, resilience, and what it means to keep growing when life doesn’t look anything like we expected.

Nurse
Nursing taught me how close strength and vulnerability can live to one another.
It gave me a front-row seat to people navigating fear, healing, uncertainty, loss, recovery, and hope. That perspective has shaped how I care for people—and how I write about them.

Sometimes a thought becomes a garden lesson. Sometimes it becomes a chapter. And sometimes it needs music.
Songwriting gives me another way to express faith, hope, struggle, worship, and the things that don’t always fit neatly into ordinary conversation.

- I believe gardens don’t need to be perfect to be beautiful, people don’t have to have everything figured out to be growing, and humor is occasionally the only reasonable response to life.
- I’m happiest when I’m creating something—whether that’s a garden, a meal, a story, a song, an encouraging word, or an unnecessarily complicated project that seemed much easier when I first thought of it.
- Faith quietly shapes the way I see all of it.
- And despite writing a book about plants dying, I remain strangely optimistic about both plants and people.
So…What Exactly Is RootsOMG?
It’s a garden. Just not the kind that stays inside the fence.
RootsOMG is where I share what I’m learning through gardening, writing, nursing, music, faith, family, creativity, loss, laughter, and ordinary life.

🌿 Some days we’ll talk about grief.
🎵 Some days there may be a song.
And occasionally the tomato and the grief will somehow end up in the same story.
