Women Who Carry the Word: Strength in Trust and Submission

Psalm 68:11 says, “The Lord gives the word; the women who announce the news are a great host.”
That picture is beautiful: God gives the message, and women are part of the ones who carry it out into the world.

From the very beginning, women have been given a voice to proclaim good news—whether it was victory in battle, the wisdom of the prophets, or even the first announcement that Jesus had risen from the dead. God has never silenced women. He has invited them to stand alongside men in His mission.

What It Means to Be a Helper

In Genesis, woman is called a helper—but not in a small way. The same word is used of God Himself when He rescues and strengthens His people. A helper is a strength, an ally, a presence that empowers.

In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit is also called our Helper. The Spirit isn’t less than the Father or the Son—He is fully God. In the same way, being a helper doesn’t mean a woman is “less.” It means she carries a vital role.

Submission and Trust

The Bible does teach wives to submit to their husbands. But submission doesn’t mean weakness or silence. It’s a choice, an act of trust in God’s order and plan. Women may often have wisdom, insight, or discernment that is clear and strong. Yet in love, they choose to honor God by letting their husbands carry the weight of spiritual leadership.

That doesn’t mean women stop leading in prayer, stop sharing their voice, or stop being full of insight. It means they trust Jesus more than they trust human leadership. Even when a husband falls short, a woman’s anchor is Christ Himself.

Our Calling

Women of faith are not invisible, and they are not powerless. We pray, we proclaim, and we stand as helpers—not because we are less, but because we are called. Our submission is strength wrapped in humility, anchored in trust that Jesus is Lord of the household, Lord of the church, and Lord of our hearts.

Reflection

  • Where have you seen God use women’s voices in your own life?

  • Do you see submission as weakness, or can you picture it as strength anchored in trust?

  • What would it look like for you to trust Jesus more deeply in your relationships?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the way You honor both men and women in Your kingdom. Teach me to trust You above all, to walk in humility without losing the voice You’ve given me. Help me to encourage others, whether in my household or community, and to follow Your Spirit’s leading every day. Amen.
