Some songs arrive like a whisper. Others… Like a confrontation.
This one pulled something out of me I didn’t know was still there.
“I Don’t Like Her (But I Love Her)” is a song I wrote about complicated love—how we can deeply care for someone who’s also been the source of our pain. It’s about truth without the sugarcoat. It’s about choosing love even when you don’t feel it.
Sometimes, love isn’t soft. It’s stubborn. Unexplainable. Gritty. You can’t pray it away. You can’t take a pass. Love, real love is work.
And sometimes… it hurts.
If you’ve ever loved someone you didn’t like, you’ll understand. If you have ever loved someone that didn’t like you back, I am sure you already know how real this lyric is.
Here are just a few of the lyrics—raw and real, just like the love behind them:

I Don’t Like Her (But I Love Her)
By Eileen Colette ©2025
I don’t like her, but I love her
Yeah, I love her, I don’t know why
She breaks me down, then pulls me under
Leaves me standin’ with a tear-stained sky
I don’t like her, but I love her
Yes, I love her — that’s the reason why
It ain’t always pretty, but it’s still true
I don’t like her… but I do
Verse 2: We got scars we never named
Words like bullets, hearts to blame
But deep down there’s a younger me
Still waitin’ on the girl she used to be

I’m working on recording a demo of this song. If you want to hear it when it drops, make sure you subscribe to the Roots OMG newsletter or follow along on TikTok / Instagram / YouTube.
This song isn’t just music. It’s a mirror.
Have you ever felt this kind of love? I’d love to hear your story in the comments. 💬
