Spanish Saffron Tea with Cardamom, Cinnamon & Honey
What Is “Blooming” Saffron?
Blooming saffron is the process of soaking the delicate red threads in hot water (or another warm liquid) before using them. This gentle steeping allows the spice to fully release its golden color, floral aroma, and unique flavor compounds. Without blooming, much of saffron’s beauty and potency can be lost.
Ingredients (Serves 1)
-
3–4 threads of Spanish saffron
-
1 cup hot water (just below boiling)
-
1 pod cardamom, lightly crushed
-
1 small stick cinnamon or ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
-
1–2 tsp honey, or to taste
Instructions
-
Bloom the saffron: Place the saffron threads in your teacup and pour in hot water. Let sit for 3–5 minutes until the water turns a rich golden hue.
-
Add the cardamom pod and cinnamon, letting them steep another 2–3 minutes.
-
Stir in honey, taste, and adjust sweetness if desired.
-
Sip slowly, enjoying the color, aroma, and warmth.
